Darwin Aviation Museum

Darwin Aviation Museum

The Darwin Aviation Museum is located about six miles (10 kilometers) northeast of downtown Darwin. It's about a 10-minute drive along the Stuart Highway. Be prepared to be amazed with its main highlight of the museum is it's mammoth B52 bomber, the only one of its kind displayed in the Southern Hemisphere, which has somehow been squeezed inside the purpose build B52 hangar. This was given by the U.S. as a form of acknowledgment at the city's part during World War II.

Children and grown-ups who are aviation fans can let their imagination run wild as the museum feature interesting stories about the history of aviation and Darwin's wartime experience. From the replica of the Spitfire and the Avon Sabre on show, the Huey Cobra helicopter to the F-111 on displays, will surely enjoy a day visit to the museum. More than a dozen full-size aircraft are on display at the Darwin Aviation Museum including a rare Boeing B52 bomber and ake a peek at the remains of a Japanese Zero fighter that was shot down during the 1942 Darwin air raids, watch air-raid footage from WWII, and learn about pioneering aviators like Amy Johnston at the Female Aviation exhibition.

A must for aviation fans, it’s one of the city’s most visited museums.
